“I hope to help students find joy for learning and build their confidence,” says Matthew Raingevirtz of his career goal to become a speech language pathologist for school-aged children. Currently enrolled in the speech language program at the School of Health Sciences of Touro University, Matthew is well on his way to achieving his ambitions.
“Though my grandmother’s speech and language were seriously impacted, she found joy in her visits with her speech-language pathologist, who exemplified patience as she worked with my grandmother to redevelop her language skills,” he says.
At Touro, Matthew values the school’s rigorous curriculum and emphasis on evidence-based best practices. He also appreciates the open-door policy of his professors and is one of the main reasons he chose SHS. “Touro’s open-door policy is what initially stood out to me and impacted my decision to apply there for graduate school. Being able to interact with my professors and ask for additional clarification on assignments or classroom discussion is extremely important to me,” he says. “I know my time at Touro will prepare me to work with school aged children using evidence-based practice while also being able to make the sessions enjoyable.”
