Program
The program will run from July 10th to the 20th, 2023.
Touro’s distinguished leadership and faculty, Simcha Fishbane, Ph.D., Israel Singer, Ph.D., Dean Stanley Boylan, Ph.D., Herb Ratner, M.S., Dana Fishkin, Ph.D. and Wanda Hernandez, M.A. will lead this adventure.
Your day will include engaging and stimulating discussions focusing on Spanish and Portuguese Jewish history and will feature exciting excursions and activities in the company of expert guides.
Our itinerary is scheduled to include:
- Spain: Segovia, Toledo & Madrid.
- Portugal: Trancoso, Belmonte, Porto, Aveiro, Obidos, Tomar, Sintra, Cabo de Roca & Lisbon.
The trip will include a visit to a Kosher winery and a boat ride.
Accommodations
This adventure includes accommodation in 4–5-star hotels, meals and entrance fees.
Cost
The total cost of the program is $3,200, there is the option to pay in four installments or fewer. The program cost does not include airfare.
A non-refundable $500 deposit is required to reserve a spot in the program.
Early bird registration by April 30th, 2023 will lower base price to $3,000.
Full cost must be paid by May 30th, 2023.
Subject to eligibility, financial aid is available.
Cancellation Policy
Touro reserves the right to cancel the program and refund participants to issues related to any force majeure, including but not limited to, hostilities, civil strife, Covid-19 or any other pandemic, instability, war, mandate, or practice that could prevent participants to enter Spain or Portugal or achieve the full vision of the planned experience.
Current conditions, travel requirements, and otherwise are as follows:
- Each Participant must sign a Waiver of Liability (Covid and otherwise.)
- Participant must purchase their own flight to Madrid and return from Lisbon.
- Full refunds can be requested up to 90 days before the trip (but all registration fees are non-refundable), thereafter only a limited percentage of the cost is refundable.
- Travel requirements may include confirmation of vaccination and/or additional testing to enter/exit the country.

About the Faculty
- Israel Singer, Ph.D. is Vice President of International Affairs at Touro University and a professor of contemporary Jewry.
- Dean Stanley Boylan, Ph.D. is a Vice President of Undergraduate Education and Dean of Faculties at Touro University.
- Dean Herb Ratner, M.A., Assistant Dean The Lander College for Men.
- Dana Fishkin, Ph.D. is Chair of Humanities at Touro's Lander College for Women.
- Michael Newman, J.D., M.A., Senior Vice President at Touro University.
- Mrs. Esther Boylan, M.A., instructor, and mentor at Lander College for Women.
- Karen Sutton, Ph.D. is assistant professor at Touro's Lander College for Women and director of the honors program.
