Program
The program runs from August 9 to August 18, 2022.
Touro’s distinguished faculty, Israel Singer, Ph.D., Dean Stanley Boylan, Ph.D., and Karen Sutton Ph.D will lead this adventure.
Your mornings will include engaging discussions about the ancient history of Morocco and mass aliyah as well as the Holocaust’s messages for contemporary times. Your afternoons will feature exciting excursions and activities in the company of expert guides.
Our itinerary is currently scheduled to include:
- Panoramic tour of Casablanca and its diverse neighborhoods and sights including a guided visit through the Museum of Moroccan Judaism and a tour of the Mellah (Jewish Quarter);
- Tour of Rabat and its sights, including the Mausoleum Mohamed V (the king who protected Moroccan Jews);
- The historic sights of Fez, including the home of Maimonides, the Mellah, the Tomb of Silica, the ancient Ibn Danan Synagogue and the restored Slat Al Fassiyine Synagogue;
- The Tomb of Rabbi Amram ben Diwan, in Asjen, an eighteenth-century rabbi whose burial site is associated with a number of miracles;
- Visits to the Mellah, Negidim synagogue and Saadien tombs in Marrakesh as well as the lmoravide Koubba el Baroudiyn, an elegant dome that was once part of the ablution complex at Ben Youssef mosque and is the only remaining part of the original Almoravid city, and a rare example of early North African architecture;
- Visit to a Berber village in the Atlas Mountains;
- Visit to Essaouira, the site of the tomb of the tzadik Haim Pinto
Camel rides, ATV, boat rides and BBQ in the desert, among many other planned activities!
Accommodations
This adventure includes accommodations in 4–5-star hotels, meals and entrance fees. Triple rooms have been allocated. If you change to a double or single room, you will incur additional fees.
Cost
The total cost of the program is $2500, payable in four installments or fewer.
A non-refundable $500 registration fee is required to reserve a spot in the program.
Early bird registration by May 31, 2022 will lower base price to $2,200.
Full cost must be paid by June 30th, 2022.
Student scholarships are available on a limited, need-based, basis. Please note that scholarships do not include airline fees, under any circumstances.
Cancellation policy
Touro reserves the right to cancel the program and refund participants to issues related to any force majeure, including but not limited to, hostilities, civil strife, Covid-19 or any other pandemic, instability, war, mandate, or practice that could prevent participants to enter Morocco or achieve the full vision of the planned experience.
Current conditions, travel, and otherwise apply.
- Each Participant must sign a Waiver of Liability (Covid and otherwise.)
- Participant must purchase their own flight to Morocco.
- Full refunds can be requested up to 60 days before the trip (but all registration fees are non-refundable).
- Travel requirements may include confirmation of vaccination and/or additional testing to enter/exit the country.

About the Faculty
- Israel Singer, Ph.D. is vice president of international affairs at Touro College and a professor of contemporary Jewry.
- Dean Stanley Boylan, Ph.D. is a vice president of undergraduate education and dean of faculties at Touro College.
- Karen Sutton, Ph.D. is assistant professor at Touro's Lander College for Women and director of the honors program.
- Simcha Fishbane, Ph.D. is professor Jewish studies at Touro College Graduate School of Jewish Studies
