Touro University Identity Verification for Online Programs

Touro University now requires students who are accepted into or registering for Online Programs to be subject to Identity Verification.

What is Identity Verification?

Identity verification is a process used to confirm that the person accepted into the online program is the same as the person who is registering for and participating in the associated courses and other academic events.

The Touro University process for Identity Verification is broken out into two steps:
Identity Proofing is step one in the process, where a student’s official government identification document (e.g., driver’s license, most passports) will be uploaded into the secure online Jumio identity verification system and then compared to a live picture of the student.

Identity Affirmation is step two in the process where information that has already been provided to Touro is checked against the same types of information in other known databases that can confirm the validity of an identity.

Both processes above work together to prove that the name of the student is the same name as the person who completed the Identity Verification process.

Why is Identity Verification Important?

The United States Federal Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) requires that all institutions offering online programs have processes to ensure that a student registering for a course is the same student who participates in, completes, and receives credit for the course or program. This is an important way that Touro works to prevent fraud and maintain the academic and administrative integrity of our online programs.

What should you expect?

This easy online process should take only a few minutes to complete.

Please be advised that until you have successfully completed your identity verification you will have a registration hold on your account and will be unable to register for classes.

What will you need

To complete the process, you will need access to the internet via either a computer with a webcam, or a smartphone with a camera, as well as your Official Governmental Identification document (e.g., driver’s license, most passports).

How to access Identity Verification

You may access identity verification in two different methods:
Accepted or returning students who have already registered for a TouroOne Portal account may access identity verification after they log in by selecting the “Academic” tab in the navigation bar on the left and then select the “TouroOne Connect” button within this section. Please note the TouroOne Portal is different than the TouroOne Connect Online Application System and requires a separate login.

Accepted students who have not already registered for a TouroOne Portal account may access identity verification after they log in to the TouroOne Connect Online Application System by selecting the button on the dashboard labeled "Identity Verification."

Identity Verification Process

Step 1 of 2 (Identity Affirmation): After you’ve gathered your documentation and are ready to begin the identity verification process, the first step will be to review and verify information you have previously submitted to Touro. All fields on this form are required and should be already populated. Already populated fields are read-only and cannot be adjusted. Any field which does not have a value already populated must be entered by you in order to proceed. While it is expected that the information displayed on this form should match your information, including the information on your Official Government-issued Identification, it is understood that this information may vary slightly in all but first name, last name, and date of birth. Please proceed to the next step if the information shown is yours even if it varies from what is displayed on your Official Government-issued identification. If the information shown is not yours, please contact the Touro Helpdesk for support.

Step 2 of 2 (Identity Proofing): You will continue by uploading a copy of your Official Government-Issued Identification. This step will compare your identification to a live photo of you that you will need to take with either your smartphone or webcam.  The submission process should take a few moments where you will receive a success or failure message.  If unsuccessful, you may attempt this process up to three times. If after three attempts you are unsuccessful, please contact the Touro Helpdesk for support.

After you have successfully completed steps 1 and 2, you will receive an onscreen message confirming your submission. Feel free to print this page for your records. Any holds that have been placed on your account preventing registration until you have completed the identity verification process will be removed within the next 2 to 3 hours, typically much sooner.

What should you do if you have any issues or questions?

Even though this process should not take more than 5 minutes, we are here for you to ensure you have the best student experience possible!
