Dov Gottlieb always knew he wanted to become a lawyer. “Some have said that being an argumentative child contributed to that expectation,” he laughs. As he got older, Dov was particularly inspired by watching the lawyers around him dedicate themselves to solving problems for their clients in ways he found intellectually stimulating.
Dov took his first step toward pursuing a legal career by attending Touro University for his undergraduate degree. He knew the education was strong and was also drawn to the professors. “There was meaningful opportunity for close mentorship and learning,” he shares. “Some of the relationships I developed with my professors at Touro continued during law school and into my early career.”
In fact, he credits his time at Touro University for helping him build a network of support that eventually led him to earn his JD from Harvard Law School – and to go on to a successful career as a lawyer. “Touro taught me the value of having mentors at every stage who can provide advice, guidance, direction, and general nurturing, which helped push me through undergrad, law school and even working at a law firm.”
Now employed at the international law firm of Simpson Thacher & Bartlett, LLP, Dov has become one of those dedicated problem-solvers he admired so much as a child. “My favorite thing about my job is that no two days are alike. It’s very dynamic, and there are always new and unique problems to solve.” Plus, the relationship-building skills he gained at Touro have also come in handy for developing a rapport with his clients. “My work has largely focused on restructuring matters, helping companies, lenders and other stakeholders to address what can be critical financial issues. It is deeply rewarding to be entrusted by clients to help them solve their most complex and significant issues.”
