Cocktails, Music and Conversation in Support of the TouroCOM Fund for Underrepresented Minority Students

By invitation only

Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine presents an evening of cocktail, music and conversation with Event Chair Governor David A. Paterson  and hosted by John Lynch and Sylvia Khatcherian. The evening is in support of the TouroCOM Fund for Underrepresented Minority Students to provide scholarships for the next generation of aspiring physicians.

The TouroCOM Fund for Underrepresented Minority Students

The recently established TouroCOM Fund for Underrepresented Minority Students will provide scholarships to needy, deserving students to give them the opportunity for a medical school education. TouroCOM will transform their lives, and they in turn, will improve the health and well-being of populations in Harlem and other medically underserved communities, who suffer disproportionately from chronic and debilitating diseases such as obesity, diabetes and hypertension.

A robust scholarship program will help TouroCOM attract a more diverse student body and allow students to focus on their studies – rather than financial worries, so graduates can launch their medical careers without the burden of huge debt. Although TouroCOM is among the least expensive not-for-profit medical schools, tuition for four years of DO education at TouroCOM is nearly $180,000, a level that few can afford without assistance.

By supporting the TouroCOM Fund for Underrepresented Minority Students, you can become one of the visionary leaders who are improving the health of many people in need. Thanks to a challenge from a generous donor who has pledged $100,000 to match $100,000 raised from the community, the impact of your gift will be doubled and more students will be able to receive scholarships.

Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine

Established in 2007 and located in the heart of Harlem on 125th Street across from the iconic Apollo Theater, the Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (TouroCOM) has graduated more than 450 physicians and has become an integral and important part of the Harlem community. TouroCOM is guided by an advisory board of Harlem’s leaders, and partners with local community groups to provide health screenings, patient education and outreach programs for young students to encourage them to enter medical and health care professions. The College’s experienced faculty, modern campus with a state-of-the-art Simulation Center, and innovative research aim to improve methods for health care delivery and overall community health.

The Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine is committed to recruiting and graduating an increasing number of underrepresented minorities and to training osteopathic physicians to practice medicine in underserved communities. The College is playing an important role in improving access to quality health care and addressing a national physician shortage.
