Keynote Speaker:
Elaine Gross, MSW
Founder and President, ERASE Racism
Elaine Gross is Founder and President of ERASE Racism, the regional civil rights organization that exposes and addresses the devastating impact of historical and ongoing structural racism, particularly in housing and public school education. Under her leadership, ERASE Racism has been recognized locally and nationally for its cutting-edge work.
Ms. Gross has led efforts that have enforced and strengthened state and local fair housing laws. In 2016, she started a statewide campaign that led in 2019 to New York’s enactment of a ban on housing discrimination against people who depend on legal non-wage sources of income for their rent. That campaign, later co-led by ERASE Racism and three other entities, grew to include more than 100 organizations.
Ms. Gross is a member of the Long Island Regional Economic Development Council, appointed by Governor Andrew Cuomo, as well as other boards. She graduated from Boston University, where she earned her MSW with a focus on community organizing, policy, planning and non-profit management.
About ERASE Racism: ERASE Racism is a regional civil rights organization founded in 2001 and based in New York. Its mission is to expose forms of racial discrimination, advocate for laws and policies that eliminate racial disparities, increase understanding of how structural racism and segregation impact our communities and region, and engage the public in fostering equity and inclusion.
