Preparation for the 2023-2024 Self-Study
In October 2021, Touro University System President, Dr. Alan Kadish, selected Vice President Robert Goldschmidt, Touro's Accreditation Liaison Officer, and Dr. Nadja Graff, Vice President of the Division of Graduate Studies, to serve as the Co-Chairs of the Self-Study Steering Committee.
Based on consultation between the President and the Co-Chairs, the President invited 24 members of the Touro University community to serve on the Middle States Self-Study Steering Committee. The membership of the committee is broadly representative of the various constituencies of the University, including administrators, faculty, staff, program directors, and an alumnus.
The Co-Chairs, along with eight key institutional personnel, attended the Middle States Self-Study Institute in October 2021. The MSCHE Self-Study Institute provided presentation and educational materials to participants, to provide an overview of the self-study and site visit process. Participants were able to engage in Q&A opportunities and speak to peer institutions and MSCHE staff.
Following the MSCHE Self-Study Institute, Touro conducted a series of presentations on the self-study and accreditation process throughout the months of November 2021 – February 2022. These included the Undergraduate Faculty Assembly, the Undergraduate Deans Council, the Graduate and Professional Deans Council, the Graduate and Professional Faculty Council, the Executive Management Committee, the Undergraduate Faculty Senate, and the Board of Trustees. A major Self-Study Launch webinar took place on February 23, 2022, with the entire Touro Community – faculty, staff, students – invited to attend.
At the first meeting of the Steering Committee, on December 28, 2021, all members were provided with a copy of the Characteristics of Excellence to review and reflect upon the accreditation process for Touro. During a series of bi-monthly Steering Committee meetings, accreditation standards were reviewed in depth, timelines reviewed, Institutional Priorities were defined, a Self-Study Design template was discussed, and membership of the 10 Working Groups was finalized.
Dr. Robert Bonfiglio, Vice President of MSCHE, is scheduled to conduct a one-day visit to Touro University on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 to meet with the President, the Steering Committee, and various constituency groups.
