Shane P. Desselle, RPh, PhD, FAPhA, is Associate Dean for Research & Professional Affairs, Chair, and Professor in the Dept of Clinical and Social Pharmaceutical Sciences at Touro University California College of Pharmacy. Dr. Desselle has been with Touro for 9 years. He is quite involved internationally, having founded the still serving as Editor-in-Chief for a leading international peer-reviewed journal, Research in Social and Administrative Pharmacy. He is also Founding Co-Editor of Pharmacy Management: Essentials for All Settings, which has been the most widely used pharmacy management text in the U.S. for the past 20 years.

Dr. Desselle has completed two Fulbright Specialist projects. The first was in 2018 at the University of Prishtina in Kosovo. There, he helped inform the creation of a Center of Assessment for the College of Medicine, which also includes pharmacy, nursing, dentistry, and allied health. Dr. Desselle also put on presentations to faculty on getting published in international journals and worked with their Chamber of Pharmacists on updating educational standards related to pharmacy management and has since continued to work with faculty at U. of Prishtina on several projects, including most recently a special themed issue in Exploratory Research in Clinical and Social Pharmacy on use of artificial intelligence in pharmacy education and practice.

His 2nd Fulbright Specialist project was just completed in March, 2024 at University of Sydney in Australia. Dr. Desselle worked with them to update the pharmacy management curriculum and acquired the assistance of 3 of their faculty to assist with the upcoming 6th edition of the aforementioned pharmacy management text in hopes of broadening its appeal and use internationally. Dr. Desselle was taken to several innovative pharmacies in Australia, which are almost entirely owned and operated independently and got to experience Australia’s advanced pharmacy supply chain management as well as their marketing, merchandising, and direct patient care services. Additionally, he worked with several faculty there on projects, with several papers already accepted for publication and is being included on a grant application to the Australian government for implementing technology and training technicians to alert patients purchasing a complementary and alternative medicine product with the potential to interact with prescription drugs.
